Q & A
What is one barrier you have overcome? How did you do it and what did you learn?
The ‘Autistic’ Label. All my life, I’ve had to live with this label before Special Olympics. I was different from so many people as a result of my autism. I didn’t go to the same schools as my parents and brother did, and it made me feel left out. Through Special Olympics, I found the strength to overcome that label of being ‘autistic’ and use my athletic talents to show the world what I am truly made of and rise above my intellectual disability. I feel confident now thanks to Special Olympics because I learned that there are lots of people out there living with the same difficulties as I have. I got to see it for myself at 4 USA Games & soon the World Games. That’s all it took.
