Q & A
What is one barrier you have overcome? How did you do it and what did you learn?
Since childhood, I’ve been coping with Autism. In 2013, a mood disorder added another layer of complexity to my daily routines and schoolwork. However, I saw this as a challenge to overcome. While the support of my doctor, therapists, teachers, family, and friends, provided ways to manage, Special Olympics activities and Figure skating in particular became a powerful tool for me. Spending time on the ice provided a healthy outlet and helped me cope with difficult days. Special Olympics isn’t just about me. It’s about my family too. It’s a place where we connect with other parents, building a support system. Participating in Special Olympics brings me joy, focus, and activity. It’s instilled in me confidence, teamwork, competitiveness, and most importantly, friendship and empathy. My achievements here fuel my motivation to never give up. Special Olympics is my happy place – a place of acceptance, growth, and well-being, both physically and mentally
